Luke's first day of preschool

This has been one of the biggest days in my life. Today was Luke's first day of preschool. For those of you who know Luke, you will understand. Just for a little insight into Luke...It has literally taken Branden and I 2 years to even get Luke to go to his primary class. He has thrown up on teachers in the past so he wouldn't have to go. He would rather sit in time out for 2 hours rather than go to primary. This child definitely has a mind of his own. I have been trying to prep him for preschool since February. We went to the open house last week and it was a total disaster. I had to drag him into the building kicking and screaming and carry him out in the "football hold" when we left. I just kept telling myself, don't cry, don't cry. One of the Mom's came up to me and said, "Your son is going to learn so much at this preschool." My thoughts were I don't really care what he learns. He just needs to GO!!!! My sons needs skills...that's social skills. We are seriously lacking in that department. I really haven't involved him in much because he can't handle it and neither could I, quite frankly.

So needless to say I was all geared up for OUR big day. I just kept thinking, Angela your paying them to take him. It will be okay. And if he's not, that's what I am paying them for. So this morning I told Luke, today is school. He proceed to yell at me and tell me that he's NOT GOING TO SCHOOL!!! Well, that went good!? We drove to the school walked up to the door and you'll never believe it. He went right in. Told me goodbye and that was that. I got out as fast as I could. Just in case he changed his mind. I was really proud of him today. He did it!! He looks so handsome in these pictures. One day down and only a billion to go.

Love this post because it gives me some insight on some of your mothering experiences that change us forever. I can really relate to some of what you said with my Jacob. We really went through some rough times where I literally though that we both needed drugs and therapy for the rest of our lives. I felt very alone in it sometimes because the other children around us seemed to be cooperating. I'm glad you lived through this first day, maybe you are over some sort of hump. I recieved a new boy between ages 4-5. Now that things have eased up I have a special closeness with Jacob that I don't have with the others because we went through some rough times together. Just all the things our mothers tried to tell us and we didn't get it.

Luke is such a 'little man'!! You must be very proud of him. And, now what are you going to do with your free time, as if I didn't know -- FABRIC THERAPY!! See you soon! Aunti Cari

congralutions. That is a huge thing for him. I am excited for you. What preschool does he go to. Jesse starts his 2 year old play day tomorrow and I can't wait. Oh the joys of mothering. Can't wait to have them then can't wait to get rid of them.
Hope you are putting yourself in lots of fabric "therapy" while he is gone.

Angela, oh my gosh! How are you? You are certainly missed. I can't believe Luke is old enough to go to preschool. You all look great!

He is SO Darling!!!

I can't complain - Tanner was all excited for preschool, but decided while he was there he was going to be obnoxious...and he was...but I -rather Ryan, didn't have too hard of a time getting him there.

By the way I heard of this new book, I heard about it on the Today show and it is called "The Problem with Boys" It is supposed to remind us that boys need to be boys and move. It is supposed to help teachers understand boys but I know I need it as a parent.
